Murton & Co has always taken pride in the strength of our internal systems and operational processes.
Over the years, these systems have supported a robust client base and helped us build a reputation for delivering high-quality services – reflected in the high volume of repeat business.
However, we recognise that what got us here might not be enough to take us where we want to go. While our existing processes have served us well, we saw an opportunity to streamline, formalise, and elevate them even further, not only to improve internal efficiency but also to demonstrate to the market that we are a company committed to internationally recognised standards of quality management.
Many of our competitors – particularly smaller firms – aren’t ISO certified, so taking this step helps us stand out. Clients will hopefully appreciate the move, particularly if they have certifications themselves and, while there are several standards, even if they’re unsure what ISO 9001 relates to, those three letters convey trust, quality, and compliance to an SME.
We already had processes and documentation in place but called on Graham Webster at business management consultancy Viable Way to guide us through the fairly simple process, and he provided templates for records and procedures that the auditor would expect to see. We kicked things off with a gap analysis around IT system security which is especially challenging as we often work with remote personnel but recognise the importance of highlighting integrity in this area.
Now we’ve accredited all our systems, processes and quality management, there’s a framework for routine review and feedback of all our work, through regular process monitoring and measurement. Plus, we should be able to quickly identify potential risks and stay compliant with legal and regulatory requirements. ISO 9001 also streamlines and standardises processes and standards, and helps reduce errors in assessments, missed deadlines, or documentation mistakes – hopefully building loyalty and repeat business. By continuing to build trust with clients, partners, and suppliers, it should mean we can compete for larger contracts or tenders that demand accreditation, while leading to better productivity and cost savings. Moving forward, it’s about putting ourselves in a position where we can get even higher value clients.
The move also reinforces our trademarked EDIFICE system – Murton & Co’s proven process model used to guide clients smoothly through each stage of a project, including engagement – finding out exactly what they want to achieve – design, investment, framework, implementation, and evaluation – measuring and reviewing if all the project goals have been met or even exceeded, if the client’s objectives have been achieved and what we could do better in future.
This certification reinforces our professional, ethical outlook and signals our commitment to delivering a quality, consistent service, giving clients confidence that processes are being audited. It demonstrates our ability to deliver accurate assessments on time, in full compliance with MEES and other regulations, while clients appreciate that our service supports their investment, reputation, and long-term energy efficiency goals.
Ultimately, for Murton & Co, ISO 9001 certification isn’t about having a certificate to hang on the wall; it’s a meaningful investment in the future of our business, ensuring we operate at the highest possible standard, and continue delivering outstanding results to clients – and that’s something to be very proud of.
